Join us to build probabilistic hazard models for climate risk analysis and bottom-up decision support, with a focus on urban flooding.
Successful members have strong technical training in applied math, machine learning, and Earth science. However, curiosity, critical thinking, and willingness to learn matter more than a perfect background.
To get a feel for the group, see our values and expectations. To start a conversation about a role, read the relevant page below and email James.
Roles and current openings
We are not able to offer opportunities to high school students or unpaid volunteers.
We welcome highly motivated and creative undergraduates to work for pay or credit on cutting-edge projects.
Current opportunities focus on:
- Flood adaptation in Houston and rural Texas communities
- Machine learning for climate risk and flood modeling
- Software tools for environmental research
See our page for prospective undergraduates for application instructions.
The application window for fall 2026 PhD positions has closed. Interested students should check back in early fall 2026 for new openings. If you have a very specific project idea that aligns with our research, feel free to reach out directly.
See our page for prospective PhD students for more information.
We are not actively recruiting a postdoc at this time, but welcome inquiries from exceptional candidates with external funding or interest in developing joint proposals. Research topics are flexible and can be tailored to align your interests with the group’s expertise in climate science, hydrology, risk analysis, and decision science.
